Take a sip of Belching Beaver’s Me So Honey, Horchata Imperial Stout or Peanut Butter Milk Stout brews and your taste buds will indicate to you that Belching Beaver isn’t interested in brewing good beer. Their priority is brewing exceptional, jaw-dropping, unique beer that you cannot find elsewhere.
From its inception, Belching Beaver’s founder Tom Vogel and head brewer Troy Smith emphasized the sheer quality of the beer they were making, prioritizing excellence over logistics, affordability of ingredients or ease. Troy was contracting hops before they even had a location, committed to selecting the most high-quality ingredients for the beer before moving forward. In their quest to find the right beer, Tom and Troy threw away any beer they felt was below their standards, dedicated to prove themselves as quality brewers despite the quirky name. The result is brilliance, evident from their fantastic lineup of core beers and the awards the brews have racked up.
San Diegans are responding to it, as Belching Beaver is struggling to produce enough beer to keep up with customer demands. After debuting in 2012, Belching Beaver was one of the first local breweries to open a remote tasting room location, choosing North Park as their satellite. This move set a trend among other San Diego brewers, who made a similar move shortly after.
The brewery announced last year to expand into a new production facility in Oceanside, with a five-vessel, 30-barrel facility in order to create more great beer for the San Diego beer community to enjoy . You can snag their beer now in 12 oz. cans and bottles now too. With all this growth, Belching Beaver is definitely a brewery to watch!
So what’s the beer that everyone is so crazy about?
Me So Honey, Honey Wheat Ale
Beavers Milk, Milk Stout
Rabid Beaver, Rye IPA
Damned!, Double IPA
Saison de Beaver, Saison
Hop Hwy, IPA
Peanut Butter Milk Stout, Stout
You can try them at the main brewery in Vista, the tasting room in North Park or at the Craft Beer Block of course! North Park wouldn’t be complete without the Belching Beaver tasting room in the heart of the San Diego beer scene, 30th street. Head here to play a few board games, hang out with your pup, take in the views of North Park through the open design and sip incredible beer. If you have a sweet tooth, the decadent Liquid Gold is a popular choice, a beer float with their Peanut Butter Milk Stout, peanut butter ice cream, whipped cream and Reese’s Peanut Butter cups.
What will the microbrewery have in store for the Craft Beer Block at the SDCCU Festival of Arts on May 21?
