The bistro, which first opened its doors back in 2013, lead by John Pani and Brian Jensen, has quickly become a neighborhood favorite, so when we learned that they plan on establishing several new locations in San Diego, we were thrilled. Rich Sweeney, the talented chef who has played a significant role in the burgeoning food scene in San Diego for the past 10 years, has joined the Waypoint team as executive chef!
Sweeney was chosen from over eighty thousand applicants as a contestant on the fifth season of Top Chef, he spearheaded his own restaurant in 2010, introduced us to some of the best tots we’ve ever had, and has consulted for many local eateries in San Diego.
The chef was drawn to work with Pani and the Waypoint team because of John’s, “point of view that hospitality is paramount— that we have to do what we can to keep our guests not just happy, but excited and wanting to come back.” Well, after you hear what he’s planning to add to the menu later this Fall, you won’t be able to stay away.
Right around San Diego Beer Week, Chef Sweeney plans to pair Waypoint Public’s extensive beer list a few dishes that he’s particularly excited about, like the, linguine+bacon+beer+clams dish, “think a beer-spiked version of Linguine & White Clam Sauce” and a “Perfectly Porky Pan Perdu with a rich and creamy IPA-Sharp Cheddar Mornay sauce.” You can all hop in line behind us, ok?
Now that we’re all salivating in anticipation of this match made in culinary heaven, we can’t wait for the official reveal of Sweeney’s new menu items!
